Christmas is almost here. During this season, we celebrate the birth of a man who lived more than 2000 years ago. Many other people are also celebrated. However, none has stood the test of time while at the same time being as widely celebrated as Christ. Why so? Unlike the others, we go out of our way to celebrate someone who, by all accounts, seemed quite insignificant at the time of his death. Looking into history as told in the gospels, we read of how Christ confessed that he had nowhere to lay his head (Matthew 8:20).

When asked what they know about Jesus, many will rightly state his popularly known virtues of compassion (Matthew 9:36), forgiveness (Luke 23:34), generosity (Mark 10:45), love (John 13:34), and mercy (Ephesians 5:2). There are fewer subjects men have cared to speak about regularly than money. God’s word does speak about money too, and significantly so. Thus, it is safe to conclude that money problems do not arise from a lack of information but rather from a lack of discipline. In Kenya, groups are popping up in the name of ‘healing ministries’. You will see them leading the masses to believe they can cause their sickness and disease to disappear from their bodies.
