The first half of the 2026 Dakar Rally is complete as competitors head into a much deserved rest day tomorrow. After a brutal 900km and fourteen hours, the top racers in the Dakar Rally have finished the first half of this year's race.

The 2026 Dakar Rally has finished its first of two two-day marathon stages today and racers across the field had to deal with racing on worn tires from yesterday. We predicted that tire issues would cause a shakeup in the overall standings and it sure did with early front runner Edgar Canet of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team suffering the worst of it, losing his rear mousse on the stage and having to limp his bike to the finish in Hail. The racing is tighter than ever at the 2026 Dakar Rally and today's stage four, the first half or a two-stage marathon phase of the race, was close with the top three finishers on the day separated by a mere 10 seconds!

The 2026 Dakar Rally set off on stage three today with a grueling, rocky route through the Saudi desert. And for the first time in 2026 we have a new manufacture taking the stage win as Monster Energy Honda HRC Rally's Tosha Schareina kept his speed high, despite a brutal crash, and recorded his first win of 2026. Second behind him was his teammate, American Ricky Brabec. The 2025 Dakar Rally final results are in and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Daniel Sanders led every day en route to his first Dakar Rally victory, KTM's 20th. The end comes after the Austrian manufacturer dominated the race, taking nine out of 13 stage wins. 

Second in the rankings was Monster Energy Honda HRC Rally's Tosha Schareina followed by his teammate Adrien Van Beveren, putting two Honda machines in the top three.

Monster Energy Honda HRC Rally Team's Tosha Schareina got his first Dakar Rally stage win today on a shortened Stage 11. Followed closely by Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Luciano Benavides and his HRC teammate Adrien Van Beveren, Schareina kept the pressure on overall race leader Daniel Sanders and his KTM, closing the gap by seven minutes in only 152km.

The stage today was shortened by weather, delaying the start of the stage due to heavy fog keeping the helicopters grounded. Organizers proposed a full stage with a 3pm gate setup at refueling, but a racer majority protested...

Dakar Rally racers had a brutal commute to work today, over 500km of on-the-road liasion, as they made their way deep into Saudi Arabia's Empty Quarter, the extreme southeast quadrant of the desert country known for it's isolation and intense sand dune landscapes. With only 100km of racing on the day, not much time was up for grabs but that didn't stop Rally 2 competitor Michael Docherty from taking his first stage win.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Luciano Benavides took his second and back-to-back stage victory today on stage nine of the 2025 Dakar Rally. The Argentinian captured the win after starting first, leading to all bonus points, and finishing ahead of his rivals on adjusted time to take the top spot 1:54 ahead of Monster Energy Honda HRC Rally's Adrian Van Beveren. KTM's front-runner Daniel Sanders finished third after the day's course was complete, 3:04 off the pace of Benavides.

The 2025 Dakar Rally completed stage eight today and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Luciano Benavides took the stage win over Monster Energy Honda HRC Rally's Adrien Van Beveren who was only 2:08 behind. Honda's Tosha Schareina finished third 2:14 off the lead and right behind AVB

The 2025 Dakar Rally has completed it's first week of racing and the competitors will settle down tomorrow when they get their first, and only, rest day. Hero Motorsports' Ross Branch won the stage from seventh place today, putting time on HRC Monster Energy Honda's Ricky Brabec but Brabec performed a master class in Dakar Rally racing and only lost 32 seconds to his closest rival. 

Brabec controlled the race stage completely, leading every kilometer from start to finish and collecting every possible bonus second on stage. Even without the bonus time gathered today, Brabec would be leading the 2024 Dakar Rally by around four minutes over Branch.

American Ricky Brabec took the stage win seconds in front of his teammates Nacho Cornejo and Adrien Van Beveren, setting the stage for an all-Honda fight for the overall race podium. Brabec added to his race lead in the overall rankings over Hero Motorsports' Ross Branch to nearly 11 minutes with two stages to go.

Ricky Brabec made moves to extend his overall lead today on stage nine of the 2024 Dakar Rally as his HRC Monster Energy Honda teammate Adrien Van Beveren took the stage win with a commanding performance opening the stage after catching both Benavides brothers early on the course.

The 2024 Dakar Rally Stage 8 results are overshadowed completely by the tragic loss of Spanish competitor Carlos Falcon of the Twintrail Racing Team. Carlos passed away today after a large crash on stage two. He had been transferred to Spain after initially receiving treatment by on-site medical staff and staff at the hospital in Saudi Arabia. His condition was very serious from the onset of the accident and he unfortunately passed away today as the result.

The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge has wrapped after five fast, sandy stages across the Empty Quarter of the Saudi Arabian Peninsula and the country of the United Arab Emirates. 

After over 17 hours of racing nearly 2,000 kilometers, Monster Energy Honda Team's Adrian Van Beveren took the win by 4:18 over Husqvarna Factory Racing's Luciano Benavides and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Toby Price (5:13 out of the lead).

Stage 13 show is up and ready to rock. Today we cover stage 13 from the 2023 Dakar Rally and, unbelievably, the race is actually closer, again. After a big day in the dunes, the leaders of the overall classification are separated by a mere 12 seconds. Third place is a minute-and-a-half back from the lead. Well, the chaos continues to reign down on the Dakar racers after a massive, 900-plus-kilometer stage with a grueling 300KM liaison back to the pits. Dakar Rally Stage 4 didn't disappoint with the speed and drama we expect from this epic race.  After losing Ricky Brabec to a crash (he's ok!) yesterday, the Honda crew stepped it up big time today with top finishes  and a stage win from Joan Barreda (29th stage win) and Pablo Quintanilla in second. Skyler Howes rode incredibly strong, again, to round out the top three - starting in second on the outset.

Today was one of those days at Dakar that really shakes things up.  For all but 43 motorcycle riders, the race stage was cut short due to a massive rain/hail storm wiping through the Saudi desert. The images are insane and reports are nasty.  For most of the moto contenders, the day ahead of that storm was fantastic. American RallyGP Rookie Mason Klein raced to his career-first Dakar stage win in today's long and grueling Stage 2 of the 2023 Dakar Rally.

The privateer racer on the BAS Trucks KTM support team started the day in third place, an unfavorable starting position giving the length of the stage and potential for massive time loss. The 2022 Dakar Rally entered stage 7 after the "day without a race" rest day,  and it didn't take long for the drama to unfold.

Daniel "Chucky" Sanders crashed violently seven kilometers from the start of the morning's liason, injuring his elbow severely and ending his Dakar hopes for 2022. The forceful Australian was confidently charging into the front of the race day after day, but a very harsh accident today ended it all.

Rest day is here for the 2022 Dakar Rally and we're reporting after the shortened Stage 6 that saw the motorcycle competitors hit extreme challenges on a brutally beat up course. If you remember, today's moto course was raced on yesterday by the horsepower-hungry cars, trucks, buggies and more. And while they laid down some pretty obvious tracks to navigate from, the roadbook didn't really represent the dangers out there  after the carnage. Today on Stage five, we saw our first contender fall and abandon the race with American success story Skyler Howes headed to the hospital right after completing the stage. Today's  Stage Nine of the 2021 Dakar Rally was held on the anniversary of Paulo Congalves' tragic accident in 2020's edition. The likable legend lost his life last year on the same date and the entire traveling family of Dakar racers paid tribute to him today with commemorative symbols on their bodies, bikes and in their hearts.

The second day of the marathon stretch at the 2021 Dakar Rally has finished with the top competitors rising to the occasion. 

In what seemed to be a catastrophic case of bad luck, Red Bull KTM's Toby Price started the day with a massive tire cut held together by zip ties and duct tape. But, somehow, the champion from Australia held it together to finish on the damaged tire, and claim second overall for the stage!

The Marathon.

Today's stage 7 of the 2021 Dakar Rally kicks off this year's marathon stages, two back-to-back stages without mechanical support from teams, techs, or service trucks. Riders do their own bike maintenance and can only work on their bikes in the paddock area one time, once they leave their ride, they are done working on the bike until the clock starts tomorrow.

The only thing restful about today is that the racers don't put on their gear and compete on the motorcycle. 

The entire pit scene is a buzz at Dakar rest days. Mechanics strip bikes to their frames and riders are busy doing interviews, sorting their gear, finding a quiet spot to zone out, and basically being bothered constantly. 

This year, the rest day hits right at the mid-point of the rally. So, we decided to do a show that covers all the racing up to this point, preview the remainder of the race and check in...

Dakar competitors are the hardiest of all. Six stages in of brutal racing at high speeds has taken its toll on even the top racers at this year's event. You can hear it in their voices - they are looking forward to a break.

Stage 5 of the 2021 Dakar Rally is the most difficult so far, with nearly ever rider losing time with navigation errors early in the stage and a grueling distance following. The stage took over five hours for the fastest competitors to finish and although it slowed in pace from previous blitzes, average speeds for the top guys was still nearly 55 mph over 283 miles.

Today's Stage 4 of the 2021 Dakar Rally in Saudia Arabia has signaled the slow down of the massive pendulum swings affecting the top-20 racers in the Elite Motorcycle division.
